Success Stories

General Motors

Problem: GM wanted ideas from their online customers on how to improve the image of the US automotive industry.

Solution: Hybrid Wisdom used Collaborative Discovery to engage 1,200 of GM's most valued online customers with the following discussion question: "What is the most important step or steps that US auto manufacturers could take in the next 5 years to improve their image among car owners like you and why?"

Value: After a few weeks, the most valuable insights were reported back to the company, including users' desires around extending warranties to convey confidence in quality and stability. Both the company and the participants were extremely pleased. In a follow up survey, 95% of users indicated that they would be "Extremely Likely" to participate again.

US Department of State

Objective: The US Department of State wanted to provide a forum for international dialogue and collect public feedback on US foreign policy.

Solution: Hybrid Wisdom used an initial version of the system called "Opinion Space" that is available to the public at: state.gov/opinionspace. The current discussion question is: "What are one or two specific new technologies or interfaces that could help governments around the world enhance open public dialogue?"

Results: The site has active since March 2011 and has been well received with extensive press coverage. There have been four separate discussion questions and over 7000 participants worldwide.

"Opinion Space will harness the power of connection technologies to provide a unique forum for international dialogue. This is ... an opportunity to extend our engagement beyond the halls of government directly to the people of the world."

- Secretary of State Clinton

Unilever

Problem: Unilever wanted employee feedback to design a new International Assignee (IA) reward policy and to allow International Assignees themselves to understand the differing opinions on the topic

Implementation: Hybrid Wisdom used Collaborative Discovery to engage 900 IAs at Unilever locations across the globe with the following discussion question: "How could Unilever improve its International Assignee policies?"

Value: After a month, one component of the reward policy was clearly identified as needed reform: the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA). Responses regarding COLA were written with very negative sentiment, and most importantly, suggestions about COLA were rated very highly by others IAs.

Humana

Problem: Humana wanted to collect ideas on how to improve the inclusion in the workplace.

Solution: Hybrid Wisdom used Collaborative Discovery to engage a select group of 100 employees in an initial brainstorm with the discussion question: "'Inclusion' is a sense of belonging at a company; respected and valued for who you are so that you can do your best work. What are one or two steps Humana might take to make a more inclusive place to work?"

Value: Pleased with the initial results, Humana is opening the discussion up to a larger group of 1000 employees, using the top ideas as a starting point for the next brainstorm.
